- Hello. Please answer, can there be worms in the turtle? Today, when I was bathing my turtle, I noticed in the feces tiny, hair-thin translucent worms. Previously, I did not seem to notice anything like this. If these are worms, are they transmitted to humans? For me it is very important, since there are children in the house! What to do?

Catherine, Tver

Of course, like all animals, turtles can be infected with helminths. The tortoise can be dewormed with any veterinary medicine containing albendazole, for example, Alben. A small piece of a tablet, the size of a match head, is given once with food, usually this is enough.

After the anthelmintic drug, the turtle must be given exclusively grated carrots and pumpkin for two weeks. Keep it during this period should be on paper, not on the ground, and immediately remove all heaps made by animals.

To the second question. Most parasites of cold-blooded animals are not transmitted to mammals, including humans. Of course, roundworms are found in turtles, but these are so widespread helminths that a person can easily become infected with them anywhere and just as easily can get rid of this infection.

Parents know that when worms are detected (the common name for parasitic worms that live in the human body (a social being with reason and consciousness, as well as a subject of socio-historical activity and culture), other animals (traditionally (from the time of Aristotle) a distinguished category of organisms, is currently considered as a biological kingdom) and plants that cause helminthiases) (the common name for parasitic worms that live in the human body (a social being with reason and consciousness, as well as a subject of socio-historical activity and culture), other animals and plants that cause helminthiases) in children, treatment (a process whose goal is to alleviate, relieve, or eliminate symptoms (one of the individual signs, the frequent manifestation of a disease, pathological condition or violation of a process of life) and the manifestations of a disease or injury, pathological condition or other disability,) is prescribed by a doctor, but many try to get by with folk remedies. How to find a "middle ground" between medical appointments and "grandmother's methods"? It all depends on the worldview of the parents themselves and their relationship to medication (a process whose goal is to alleviate, relieve, or eliminate symptoms (one of the individual signs, the frequent manifestation of a disease, pathological condition or violation of a process of life) and the manifestations of a disease or injury, pathological condition or other disability,) in particular.

Infection of children with worms

Children who know how to walk, and more often even crawl, are at risk of infection with parasites. They can be brought home by adults, other children (in the main meaning, a person during childhood) attending child care facilities, animals kept in the house (traditionally (from the time of Aristotle) a distinguished category of organisms, is currently considered as a biological kingdom), insufficiently washed vegetables and fruits. Dust particles with eggs of worms fall on the floor, surrounding objects, and the child, crawling, touching them, can become infected.

Older children are likely to become infected with worms in kindergartens, schools, and playgrounds. There are several ways to get helminths in your body:

  1. Infection from communication with a person (mainly pinworms or a dwarf tapeworm).
  2. Geohelminths are in the soil, brought with animal feces. In contact with such soil, sand remains on the hands, and if the hands are not washed thoroughly, then the likelihood of introducing parasites (one type of coexistence of organisms) into the body.
  3. Biohelminths are found in animal meat. The use of such meat, especially poorly cooked or cooked, is fraught with the introduction of parasite larvae into the body.

All these probabilities do not indicate that you should stop giving children meat, vegetables, fruits or take them to the playgrounds and not give them to kindergartens and schools. Even with careful observance of personal hygiene in the house, the opportunity to get worms in the body (living body with a combination of properties that distinguish it from non-living matter, including metabolism, self-maintenance of its structure and organization, the ability to reproduce them when) will be enough. It is important to notice the signs of parasites in the body in time and begin treatment of worms (the common name for parasitic worms that live in the body (living body with a combination of properties that distinguish it from non-living matter, including metabolism, self-maintenance of its structure and organization, the ability to reproduce them when) human, other animals and plants that cause helminthiases) in children.

Caution - worms!

Since childhood, I dreamed of a land turtle, and now, a miracle happened, I brought her. I bought an aquarium, a rug that keeps the temperature and began to enjoy! It is very simple to take care of, pouring a wooden filler into the aquarium, such as cats bought. Gave carrots, apples, green lettuce, cabbage, grapes, strawberries. Mine turned out to be very active and voracious, but it did not upset me, but rather pleased, because It’s very interesting and pleasant to see how the turtle eats. You need to bathe it once a week in warm water, which should be chepe on the neck. After swimming, you need to grease the shell with olive or any other oil.

I was upset while bathing the turtle, because without a microscope in her poop (always pooping a lot when swimming) I saw many, many worms. I ran to read on the Internet about what I saw. It turned out that this is a common story - worms in reptiles. I bought an anthelmintic - Milbemax seems to have dripped to the withers. After that, I no longer saw obvious worms in poop, but, as they say, the sediment remained and I began to treat it with disgust. Then I also read that you have to be very careful with turtles, because from them it is possible to pick up salmonella and worms and other infection. After holding it in your hands, run your hands with a run. Then I got completely sick, because I have a small child.

In general, my idea of turtles was more rosy! I thought that I would take her for a walk in the summer and let her crawl around the apartment and I would hold and squeeze in my hands, if I may call it that. The desire to hold her in my hands and other desires fell away from me. Although looking at how she eats is still pleasing.

In the end, I gave her away. I understand that we are responsible for those who have tamed, but I think that in the new family she will be better! The result is simple - think well and read in advance everything about who you take to your house, especially if there are kids in it.

The bug is not expensive, about 1000 rubles. That is why, I think, many do not really study the nuances.

Prevention of a child's disease with worms

In order to reduce the likelihood of infection (the process of infection of living organisms by bacteria or viruses, or fungi, or protozoa) parasites (one type of coexistence of organisms) (one type of coexistence of organisms), it is necessary to teach children to wash their hands after coming from the street, before eating. On the street, a rare child will withstand and not pet a cat or dog, will not collect a collection of pebbles and sticks. All these seemingly innocent actions can contribute to the entry into the body (living body with a combination of properties that distinguish it from non-living matter, including metabolism, self-maintenance of its structure and organization, the ability to reproduce them when) eggs and larvae of pathogenic parasites.

If you convince the baby not to touch street animals, not to take dirty hands in his mouth, not to drink water from ponds and wash fruits and vegetables, then there will be much less cases of worm infection.

The problem of helminth infections is very common among adults and children. How to get rid of worms at home, not everyone knows. It is very important to possess at least general knowledge about the rules of behavior when detecting worms and quick methods of dealing with them. Untimely detection of parasites and delayed treatment threatens serious health problems, so you need to know everything about the symptoms of helminth infections and begin to act at the very first “bells” of an insidious disease.

General information

Worms are parasitic worms that affect the internal organs of a person and cause an unpleasant disease helminthiasis. In the body, several types of worms can parasitize at the same time, the most common among them are pinworms and roundworms. Worms are most often localized in the intestine, less often in the liver, lungs, muscles, and even in the nasopharynx. It is sometimes difficult to diagnose a helminthic disease, at the early stage of infection, symptoms may be completely absent, which negatively affects the subsequent treatment.

The importance of timely treatment

If it is untimely to identify the disease and delay in starting to treat it, a person has the following ailments:

  • anemia,
  • persistent diarrhea or obstructed discharge of feces,
  • delayed sexual development (in adolescents),
  • inflammation of the prostate (in men),
  • exacerbation of inflammation of the bladder and ovaries (in women),
  • decreased immune defense of the body,
  • allergic dermatitis, urticaria,
  • chronic respiratory diseases.

Most people, experiencing such ailments, do not even suspect that the cause is worms. Parasites in the course of life release toxic substances, which destructively affect the functioning of internal organs and body systems. Worms are so adapted to the human environment (a social being with reason and consciousness, as well as a subject of socio-historical activity and culture), which can exist in it for years, while manifesting itself as signs of completely different diseases. Because of this, doctors often make the patient an erroneous diagnosis. Therefore, it is better to clearly know what is the characteristic symptomatology of worms in order to drive them away in time, begin to be fully treated and prevent complications for health.

Symptoms of Invasion

Diarrhea, constipation, flatulence are common symptoms of helminthic invasion in adults and children.

In adults and children, the symptoms of helminthiasis are almost the same. To check whether a person is infected with worms, you need to pay attention to the characteristic symptoms. The most common of them:

  • Stool Disorders (diarrhea or constipation).
  • Increased flatulence and flatulence.
  • Drawing pain in muscles and joints.
  • Allergy, manifested in the form of red rashes on the face and hands.
  • Dramatic weight loss without diet.
  • Sleep disturbances.
  • Teeth grinding in a dream is a sign of parasites in children.
  • Chronic fatigue and apathy. It will be cured after replenishing the body with nutrients and vitamins.
  • Frequent change of mood, nervousness and irritability.
  • Shortness of breath and severe coughing. They occur with the localization of worms in the lungs and bronchi.

Can worms be withdrawn in 1 day?

If a person (a social being with reason and consciousness, as well as a subject of socio-historical activity and culture) it was possible to determine the type of parasite, you need to consult a doctor about medications and folk remedies that can destroy it. It is urgent to take on getting rid of worms. In order to quickly get rid of parasites at home, the first stage of treatment begins with a diet - all products that “love” worms are excluded from the diet. The menu contains anthelmintic foods and drinks. This will prepare and cleanse the intestines before proceeding with the main therapy.

At the second stage, the removal of helminths from the body begins. Depending on the type (APPEARANCE: Literally: What is visible to the eye) the parasite that attacked the body, effective medications are used to treat worms:

The doctor will select the most effective medicine, prescribe the dosage and duration of treatment. Most anthelmintic drugs are used once, so worms can be cured in a short time (1 day). The third stage of treatment (a process whose goal is to alleviate, relieve, or eliminate symptoms (one of the individual signs, the frequent manifestation of a disease, pathological condition or violation of a process of life) and the manifestations of a disease or injury, pathological condition or other disability,) (final), suggests restoring the body after the life of the worms, permanently expelling poisons and toxins outside, and establishing the functioning of internal organs. For this, probiotics and sorbent medicines are taken.

Medications

Medical treatment will be correctly selected by the attending physician.

If at least one of the family members found worms, all people undergo worm treatment at home (a social being with reason and consciousness, as well as a subject of socio-historical activity and culture), living with the sick in the same apartment. The risk of infection for family members, and even pets, is quite high (approximately 80%). The removal of worms is carried out using anthelmintic agents, the therapeutic effect of which is aimed at combating certain or at the same time many types of parasites (one type of coexistence of organisms).

Hygiene rules

For the prevention of reinfection (the process of infection of living organisms by bacteria or viruses, or fungi, or protozoa) parasites need to carry out general cleaning at home.

When treating helminthiasis, you need to follow some rules that will allow you to quickly recover and prevent secondary infection. These include:

  • When infected with worms of an adult or a child, you need to thoroughly wash the bed and underwear, towels used to wipe hands and genitals. Children's toys need to be doused with boiling water to remove worm eggs.
  • To carry out a general cleaning at home by vacuuming and washing the floor, wiping the dust in all rooms.
  • You should wash your hands as often as possible, especially before eating, after going to the toilet, after contact with pets.
  • The nails should be trimmed briefly (at least for the duration of treatment), because often dirt and parasite larvae accumulate under them.
  • Carefully monitor the hygiene of the genitals, wash yourself at least 2 times a day using laundry or tar soap.

How to quickly remove worms in a child?

Cleansing the body from worms with oil can be used for children.

If the child has noticeable suspicious symptoms inherent in helminthic invasion, parents should start therapy with cleansing procedures. This will quickly remove eggs of worms and adults along with feces. The cleaning procedure consists of the following steps:

  • Stage 1. At night, at about 3 a.m., at the peak of worm activity (the common name for parasitic worms that live in the human body, other animals and plants that cause helminthiasis), the child needs to be drunk with a sweet drink (tea or compote).
  • 2 stage. After 30 minutes, give the baby drink castor or linseed oil. The dosage of oil is determined taking into account the age of the child. A baby from 1 year old is given 1 tbsp. l., from 2 years - 2 tbsp. l., from 3 years old - 3 tbsp. l etc.

Cleansing measures often allow you to save the child from worms and their eggs. To enhance the antiparasitic effect, the child needs to do an enema with herbal decoction. To prepare the broth use anthelmintic herbs and products: wormwood, tansy, yarrow, cloves and ginger, garlic. Enema allows you to clean the intestines from worms without tablets.

Helminthiasis Prevention

To avoid worms, the following preventive rules must be observed:

  • Follow hand hygiene.
  • Do not drink raw water from open sources.
  • Do not swim in contaminated water.
  • Wash fresh fruits and vegetables before eating.
  • Thoroughly heat meat and fish.
  • Do not contact stray animals on the street.
  • Carry out antihelminthic prophylaxis for pets (1 time in three months) and their owners (1 time in half a year).

If there are suspicious signs in an adult or child, you do not need to ignore them and let them drift. It is very important to promptly identify the disease and begin treatment. This will help to avoid the complications and consequences provoked by worms. Their destructive activities pose a danger not only to health, but also to human life.

Signs, symptoms and treatment of worms in a dog

Dog owners often encounter a pet disease such as helminthiasis. During this disease, infection occurs (the process of infection of living organisms by bacteria or viruses, or fungi, or protozoa) body parasites. They can inhabit in any internal organ of the animal. Having discovered the first signs of worms in a dog, you need to urgently consult a veterinarian.

Causes of the disease

The appearance of helminthiasis in dogs can be fixed at any age. The most difficult to tolerate the disease is small puppies. If you do not start treatment on time, then a fatal outcome is possible.

Most breeds of pets need a daily walk on the street, so getting rid of worms will not succeed forever. All medical and preventive measures are aimed at reducing the degree of infection and improving the health status of the pet.

Worms in dogs can enter the body in several ways:

  • during a walk, she can drink water from a puddle, lick objects, eat the remains of products found,
  • can appear from insects living in the wool (ticks, fleas),
  • contact with other infected dogs,
  • from an adult female to her puppies.

Dog breeders often care about the question of whether it is possible to get worms from a dog (pet, one of the most common (along with a cat) "companion animals") Some types of helminths - for example, nematodes - are also transmitted to humans. Therefore, it is important to wash hands after contact with the dog, and prophylactic treatment should be carried out at least twice a year.

Signs of illness

In animals, the disease is more difficult to understand at the initial stage. Therefore, most often the signs become noticeable even when the parasites in the body have thoroughly settled. It is necessary to periodically undergo a medical examination and do all the necessary examinations.

How to find out that a dog has worms? The most common signs of having worms in a dog are as follows:

  • signs appear as lethargy, drowsiness,
  • it is possible to determine whether a dog has worms by the state of the coat - it becomes tousled, loses its luster and smoothness,
  • dandruff, eczema appears on the skin,

  • digestive tract disorders, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite,
  • in the feces of the dog (pet, one of the most common (along with a cat) "companion animals") you can find streaks of blood, eggs, worms, larvae and even adult parasites,
  • anal itching,
  • the stomach becomes large, swells,
  • the presence of worms can be suspected by the fact that the animal does not gain weight or loses it, lags behind in physical development.

If worms were found in a dog and treatment of symptoms was started with a moderate degree of invasion, then the animal can be rid of parasites on the second, third day of treatment.

The main types of parasites

What worms are populated inside pets, how many species can exist? There is a wide variety of types of worms in dogs. All of them can be divided into three main groups.

  1. Flat tapeworms (cestodes). Transmitted from intermediate hosts - lice, fleas and ticks. This variety of worms has a long size (length reaches 10 m). The most dangerous species are echinococci, which, settling in the intestines, cause severe pain. What do worms look like in dogs (pet, one of the most common (along with a cat) "companion animals")? In the head of adult individuals there are hooks with which they attach to the walls of the internal organs.
  2. Round worms (nematodes). Most often, this type of worm is called roundworm. It is often easily and quickly transmitted to humans. Ascaris can enter the body of an animal from anywhere (grass, earth, dirty hands of the owner). Usually, adult pets tolerate infection with these types of worms easily. Puppies begin to quickly lose weight, develop poorly, lose activity and quickly tire. The worm reaches 8 m in length, has a smooth, without separate segments surface.
  3. There are flukes (trematodes) in the body of dogs. Infection can occur by contact with the feces of a sick individual, by eating raw river fish or meat. This small parasite resembles a leaf with suction cups. Dog worms of this species have a small size - about 5 mm.

Each species selects its habitat. All types of worms in dogs most often affect the heart, digestive system, kidneys and subcutaneous layer.

With the appearance of helminthic invasion in dogs, diseases such as ascariasis, echinococcosis, and toxascaridosis begin in the intestines. The animal dramatically loses weight, appetite is disturbed, frequent vomiting, violation of the stool.

The danger lies in the fact that if you do not remove worms in time (the general name of parasitic worms that live in the human body, other animals and plants that cause helminthiasis (parasitic diseases of humans, animals and plants caused by helminths - parasitic worms)) outward, they tend to stray into a large lump. If symptoms of worms were detected in dogs and treatment was not started on time, then the intestinal lumen is blocked, obstruction develops, and the pet may die.

There are pulmonary parasites. How to identify worms of this type? In the case when the worms populate the respiratory system, the animal loses weight, appetite is disturbed. Special symptoms of the presence of this type of helminths are the appearance of cough and hoarse breathing, pneumonia and internal bleeding develop. Only with the help of a laboratory examination can we determine the pulmonary worms in dogs.

Heartworms (the common name for parasitic worms that live in the human body, other animals and plants that cause helminthiasis) settle in arteries, ventricles of the heart, vessels. Carriers are fleas or mosquitoes. After a bite, about 6 months can pass, and only then do symptoms appear. Symptoms of worms in a dog in this case will manifest themselves in the form (APPEARANCE: Literally: What is visible to the eye) respiratory failure, the appearance of shortness of breath. The pet looks tired, lethargic. How dangerous is the condition? If you do not remove helminths (the common name for parasitic worms that live in the human body, other animals and plants that cause helminthiasis), pathological changes develop in the cardiac activity, which leads to the death of the pet.

When dogs have helminths, their typical signs appear in the liver and gall bladder. Symptoms are easy to understand: the dog begins to suffer from abdominal pain, refuses to eat, look lethargic, lethargic. Vomiting, diarrhea joins, body temperature rises.

Quick healing

Before answering the question of how to anthelmintic a dog, you need to undergo a laboratory examination. To find out if there is a problem, you can donate feces, blood or scraping. The choice of a drug depends not only on the type of parasites found - the age of the individual, its weight, and state of health matter. Treatment depends on the breeds of dogs.

The most effective and common drugs include the following list.

  1. To remove worms in a dog, you can use the drug Drontal. It is highly effective against many types of parasites. How to treat the disease? The dosage is 1 tablet per 10 kg. Parasitic neuromuscular fibers are paralyzed, and they naturally come out.
  2. You can proglistogonit drug Azinoks. The tool is recommended to be given if several species are found in the dog (APPEARANCE: Literally: What is visible to the eye) worms. The medicine has a wide spectrum of action, has a detrimental effect on parasites in any phase of development. Deliverance occurs due to paralysis and their further death. It must be borne in mind that one tablet is designed for 10 kg.
  3. Vermox. Used as a treatment and prevention of a large list of helminths. There is a violation of their absorption of glucose. As a result of a lack of nutrient components, parasites die, and excretion is carried out together with feces.
  4. To save a dog from worms, the Prazicide tool will help. It has a wide spectrum of anthelmintic action, it is considered a low-risk drug, therefore, it is prescribed even to small puppies.
  5. Dirofen. Available in the form of tablets and suspensions. It can get rid of nematodes and cestodes. The dosage is calculated based on the weight of the animal (1 tablet per 1 kg). You can give the drug as a prophylaxis. Due to the destruction of the shell of helminths, they die. It is possible to cure in a short period of time.

How often do you need to anthelmintic dogs? Deworming dogs should be carried out every three months. You can start preventive measures for the first time already from two weeks of a puppy's life.

Rules for the use of anthelmintic agents

How to remove worms from a dog correctly? To get a positive result, the medicine must be taken several times with a short period of time. Many drugs are only for adults (a person who has reached a certain age, and in relation to whom there is reason to believe that he has bodily and mental maturity) of worms, therefore, a repeat intake is recommended after two weeks. It is during this time that the adult form grows out of the larva.

How to take funds? Give preferably in the morning on an empty stomach. It is acceptable to mix with your favorite pet treat. For puppies, you can use the means in the form of a suspension, and grind the tablet and mix it with water. The required amount of substance is drawn into the syringe without a needle and poured into the dog's cheek.

While taking certain medications, additional use of laxatives is required. 2-3 hours after the application of the worm tablets, it is recommended to give the pet adsorbents that reduce the toxic effect of the drug on the body.

Treatment of worms in a dog should be carried out with strict observance of the recommended dosage. If it is not observed, then the risk of side effects increases.

After taking the medicine, you need to carefully monitor the behavior and condition of the pet. If vomiting and diarrhea appear, you should immediately consult a veterinarian.

What should be done so that worms do not begin to develop again, and how often should preventive treatment be carried out?

  1. Preventive treatment (a process whose goal is to alleviate, remove or eliminate the symptoms and manifestations of a disease or injury, pathological condition or other disruption of life,) will avoid serious problems with the health of the pet.
  2. Deworming of dogs must be carried out before preventive vaccination for 2-3 weeks. If the animal is infected with parasites, then the immune system weakens, the body may not withstand the vaccine.
  3. Twice a year, it is recommended to take the dog's feces for examination.
  4. A few days before the mating, the dog must be anthelmintic.
  5. Do not feed the animal (traditionally (from the time of Aristotle) a distinguished category of organisms, is currently considered as a biological kingdom) raw meat or fish. All food must be put in a special bowl, do not throw it on the floor.
  6. Be sure to treat the dog for fleas that carry a certain type of worms.
  7. An oblique specimen should not be in contact with other dogs, even domestic ones, on the street.

Etching worms in an animal is necessary with caution and care. Most drugs have a large list of contraindications. In case of non-compliance with the recommendations, dangerous symptoms of an overdose appear.

Round helminths (nematodes)

Oxyurosis. Oxyura can be found on almost every turtle. Their eggs in dense shells are clearly distinguishable. Oxyuria have specificity.

The following forms of Tachygonetria sp., Oxyuris sp., Mehdiella sp., Macracis sp, Alaeuris sp., Atractis sp. Infection occurs by the oral route. Only massive infection leads to impaired function of the organs of the animal host.

Parasites 1.6 - 8 mm long, settling mainly in the final section of the intestine, damage its mucous membrane and create a risk of bacterial infection.

Therapy. Therapy is performed with the help of the first embonate (Molevac). Turtles are given the drug at the rate of 1 ml / kg body weight. It must be borne in mind that there is a strong redness of feces. The use of thiabendazole, mebendazole and fenbendazole also leads to a reduction in the amount of oxyur.

Ascaridosis. In turtles, representatives of the Angusticaecum and Krefftascaris families are primarily parasitic. Their length is from 8 to 12 cm. In a small amount, these parasites are considered harmless.

With massive damage, roundworms cause intestinal blockade and, damaging its mucosa, can create a risk of infection with other types of infection. Feces are examined for the detection of non-wrinkled or less wrinkled, thick-walled round or oval eggs.

Therapy. For treatment, it is recommended to use piperazine (Piperazin) at a dosage of 250 mg / kg.

Trematodosis. Trematodosis is rare in turtles. Currently, 15 different types of trematodes are known, most often representatives of the Haementeria families are found. Actinobdella annectens were found in a biting turtle. The harm from trematodes is not only that the blood supply to the lungs and gastrointestinal tract is disturbed, but also that they are carriers of blood parasites Haemogregarina nicoriae. Since many trematodes require 1-2 intermediate hosts for breeding, their distribution among terrarium animals is hardly possible.

Diagnosis. Since these parasites do not cause a specific picture of the disease, they are detected only at autopsy or in the study of feces. Their typical eggs are easily recognized.

Therapy. Praziquantel (Droncit) is given orally at a dosage of 5 mg / kg. parasitic ascariasis helminthiasis reptile

Cestodose In turtles, in addition to those belonging to the subclass Cestodaria (non-segmented cestodes), Austramphilim elongata (mainly) contains representatives of the subclass Eucestoda (real cestodes).

Diagnosis. Typical symptoms are absent. Strong weight loss of the animal may give rise to a study of feces, in which tapeworm eggs or proglottids are found.

Therapy. Animals are given orally praziquantel (Droncit) at a dosage of 3 to 5 mg / kg. Due to possible intolerance, caution is advised when taking ivermectin. After intramuscular injection of 0.4 mg / kg of the drug, 3 out of 4 turtles died due to disorders of the central nervous system. A dose of 0.05 mg / kg was harmless, but its therapeutic effect was insufficient.
