This breed of cats will not appeal to all cat owners. Many may find her ugly. But to each his own. And all the “species” of sphinxes have ardent fans. And the Don Sphinx has a special charm and beauty. The character of the cat is no less attractive. Therefore, this breed is considered expensive and is so appreciated by true cat lovers.

Description

A small fluff on the body of the animal can appear only in the cold season. Basically - this is a completely bald cat. Thus, it differs from the Canadian sphinx. The latter has a wrinkled soft body, velvety to the touch.

The skin is collected in the lower groin and abdomen with folds.

Slender sphinxes have long slender legs with long toes. The cat's head is triangular, as are the ears, rounded to the tips. The eyes of the Don Sphinx are a little slanting. Females of this breed are slightly smaller than males.

At birth, kittens of this breed have a fluff on their body, which rolls over time. Another distinctive feature of the Don Sphinx is twisted tendrils and eyebrows (vibrissa) at the birth of animals.

In addition to the standard bald Don Sphynx, there are cases inside the breed when a pet with wool is born. The hard, short coat of these animals may resemble a brush with bald patches on the neck, head and back.

Such members of the family cannot participate in exhibitions and receive high ranks. However, the Don Sphynx with wool can also be involved in breeding. Such participation eliminates the possibility of the appearance of kittens with pathologies. For the Don Sphinx, any coat color is acceptable.

History

Beautiful cats of this kind were bred in the south of Russia relatively recently - in the last century. Their breeding was done by felinologists from Rostov. The progenitor of the breed is a simple cat from the yard, bald for some reasons. For 10 years, specialists have achieved the desired result. Finally, a kitten of the “necessary” appearance was born. In 1996, the breed was registered by the world association.

Head and face

The Don sphinx has a wedge-shaped head, clearly defined cheekbones and eyebrows. The cat’s forehead is flat with many folds that fan out above the eyes. The nose of the cat is of medium length, the muzzle is easily rounded with a light pinch. The Don Sphinx has strong and large teeth, long upper clicks that can even peek out from under the lip. The ears of the sphinxes are high set, slightly inclined forward and with rounded ends. The shape of their eyes is almond-shaped, medium in size, obliquely spaced and slightly covered. Eye color can be any.

Build proportional, strong, medium length. Wide enough croup. The hind legs are longer than the front, slender and proportional to the body. The tail is straight and long.

Leather and Wool

The skin is elastic, bare and wrinkled, hot and velvety to the touch. Sphinxes tend to sweat, suffer from acne. Under the sun, the skin of the sphinxes tans and becomes brighter. Thick mustache can be of any length or broken off. Wrinkles are desirable on the face, between the ears, around the shoulders, and also on the legs and stomach. A large number of folds should not affect the normal functioning of the body.

In winter, the Don Sphynx may have a rare soft fluff throughout the body.

Depending on the quality of wool, the Don Sphinxes are divided into four types

  • Naked (“rubber”, “plasticine”) - implies a completely hairless skin. Usually "rubber" kittens are born naked.
  • Velor - the whole body is covered with a thin short fluff that resembles the fabric of the same name by touch. With age, such cats can become bald.
  • Flock - the skin is covered with short soft hair, which is almost invisible from afar, somewhat reminiscent of a peach. By the age of two, flokovye cats sometimes completely "undress".
  • Brush (derived from English “brush” - brush, bristly) - cats with long, stiff and curly hair. Often observed areas of baldness on the head, neck and stomach. Brush sphinxes can periodically “dress” and “undress”, which is associated with many factors (hormonal malfunctions, pregnancy, weather, castration and other reasons).

Brushes do not receive titles at exhibitions, but are allowed to breed. This is due to the fact that in a litter from two completely naked Donchaks, weak kittens are usually born, with large mutations and are often not viable.

Absolutely naked sphinxes do not exist; residual hair is retained behind the ears and nose, sometimes at the tip of the tail. In addition, a light invisible fluff remains on the skin.

Character

The Don Sphynx breed is characterized by an interesting expression: "Not a man yet, but not a cat either." They have a gentle character, are attached to their masters, are mobile, love attention and affection. Don Sphynx kittens aged 2-4 months are quite active, they are literally interested in everything that is around, regardless of the subject, they try to try everything for a tooth. Kittens are in constant search of new fun, love the environment, and if they stay alone for a long time in the house, they can get bored and even cry a lot.

In adolescence, they become calmer, pay less attention to games and give all their attention to their owners. They begin to distinguish who is better for them, caresses more, who feeds, plays with them, and treat them accordingly, in their own way. It is at this age that Sphinx cats finally establish their character and temperament, all the habits that they acquired during this time are fixed. Adult Don cats are the real pride of their owners. It should also be noted that the nature of the Don Sphynx of the cat is different from the nature of the Don Sphinx of the cat. Not castrated cats are almost always preoccupied with procreation.

The nature of the Don Sphinxes is strongly influenced by their content, the relationship of the owners to the animal, education and genetic inclinations.

Breed Reviews

Owner reviews, of course, will not replace live communication, but they will help to get to know the breed better and create a collective image. Don sphynxes are peace-loving and absolutely non-aggressive cats that are strongly attached to humans, but remain independent and keep equal with the owner.

Owners speak of many pets as very smart and clean animals with their own character and habits that they will have to put up with or put up with.

Among the Donetsk people there are also “manual” and independent ones, approximately equally.

The story of one cat:

Summing up, we highlight several character traits and characteristics of the hairless cats inherent in the breed, originating from Rostov-on-Don:

  • Don sphinxes are not aggressive, strongly attached to the owner, neat and smart enough.
  • They require a lot of attention
  • Talkative
  • May be touchy, but not vindictive,
  • Heat-loving, poorly tolerate drafts and cold. Sometimes you have to wear a cat.
  • Eat more and more often than other cat breeds,
  • Care for the Donetsk dwellers is needed daily,

Before you start the Don Sphinx, assess your physical and material capabilities. Do you have enough time to pay attention to this little child, play with him, caress, feed and wipe your ass, not from time to time, but regularly.

Maintenance and care

Don sphinxes are adapted for life only in the greenhouse conditions of the apartment. Cooling and drafts can lead to colds, so you need to take care of the availability of clothing for the pet. In summer, the cat should be protected from the negative effects of ultraviolet radiation. So that your pet brings you joy, learn how to properly care for and feed him. Be sure to purchase for him toys, bowls for feeding, a scratching post, a toilet with a filler.

Don sphynxes are not a hypoallergenic breed and, like others, can cause an allergic reaction.

Don sphinxes require attention, care and regular, very troublesome, daily care from the owner.

Donchaks bathe much more often than other cat breeds, about once a week using special shampoos. If this is not done, the dark secretion of the sebaceous glands accumulates on the skin and an unpleasant odor appears. Daily it is advisable to wipe the skin between the fingers and folds, in the groin and on the tail with a moist cotton pad, these areas are more susceptible to dirt and rashes, especially in adolescence.

Sometimes bathing can be replaced by wiping with a damp towel or baby wipes. After water procedures, the skin should be well dried with a towel and greased with baby oil or moisturizer. Sphinxes have practically no instinct to lick, which is associated with a lack of hair, so small kittens, and sometimes adult cats, have to wash their ass after "big things." Due to the lack of eyelashes I require special care for the eyes of the Donchaks. They are regularly cleaned of sour and wiped with a decoction of chamomile or tea. Ears are cleaned about once a week. Claws on the forelegs are sheared once a week, and on the hind legs once every two weeks.

Diet

It should be noted right away that the nutrition of hairless cats has a number of features. This is due to increased energy exchange and high heat transfer, that is, nutrition should correspond to a rapid metabolism. Sphinx is recommended to feed 3-4 times a day in small portions. Be sure to follow the feeding regimen.

Don sphinxes can be fed with natural food or already prepared feeds, the choice always remains with the owner.

If the cat is not picky, then you can choose a convenient diet and cook your own food. The basis of natural nutrition is meat, a little porridge and vegetables, sometimes dairy products, once a week fish and raw quail egg. Be sure to give courses of vitamin and mineral supplements.

But if Donchak is a big picker and he cannot manage to provide good nutrition with natural products, then it is better to stay on ready dry feed of premium class and higher. High calorie diets are best suited for active domestic cats or feed, specifically designed for hairless breeds.

Many sphinxes are prone to overeating, which leads to weight gain. The diet of such pets should be closely monitored.

Health and Life Expectancy

Most often, Don Sphinxes have skin problems, and the reason is the excessive secretion of the sebaceous glands, which is an excellent medium for the reproduction of microbes and poor hygiene. For the diagnosis, it is recommended to do a scraping and only according to its results prescribe treatment.

The Don Sphinxes note a number of hereditary diseases:

  • Microphthalmos - a decrease in the eyeball. Congenital malformation, leads to decreased vision and the development of other eye diseases,
  • Syndrome of falling asleep kittens is most often manifested when two "rubber" sphinxes are crossed. In infants, an underdevelopment of the vital gland, the thymus, is noted, which leads to death,
  • Curvature of the spine in the caudal region is often associated with a number of other pathologies: underdevelopment of the intestine, bone system,
  • Shortening of the lower jaw is of varying degrees and affects the quality of life in different ways,
  • Vasculitis of the skin - inflammation of the walls of the vessels of the skin, to which the donors are most prone,
  • Congenital inversion of the eyelids is corrected by surgical intervention,
  • Hyperplasia of the nipples is observed when preparations were used before pregnancy to suppress the sexual functions of the female. Nipples swell, increase in size and as a result, they are recommended to be removed surgically.

It is believed that Don Sphynx has a much higher body temperature than other cats, but this is not true. It fluctuates within normal limits - 38-39.5 ° C. In young animals it is closer to the upper border, while in pregnant and old animals it is closer to the lower one.

Life expectancy is an average of 13-14 years.

Kitten selection and price

Little kittens of the Don Sphinx make a fascinating impression on a person. Imagine the following picture - plump, naked folded lumps constantly somersaulting.

They are very curious, which justifies their early intellectual development. One of the features of the Don Sphynx is that kittens open their eyes already in the first 1-3 days of life, and not after 2 weeks, like the others.

Regardless of the purpose of the acquisition: for yourself, for an exhibition for breeding, you need to make sure that the baby is healthy. It should be active, playful, mobile and clean with a rounded elastic tummy. Many factors influence the cost of the Don Sphynxes: the merits of the parents, type of coat, gender, class of the animal (for home breeding, exhibitions), etc.

On Avito kittens without documents, and therefore without confirmation of pedigree, are sold at a price of up to 5 thousand rubles.

Kittens of a pet class (for castration / sterilization) with documents cost from 15 thousand rubles.

Animals for breeding and show careers can cost from 35,000 rubles. and higher.

Origin of breed

Don Sphynx is a breed bred in Russia in 1990. Named after the city of Rostov-on-Don, where the first individual appeared. The beginning of the history of the appearance of the Don Sphinxes was 1986. A resident of Rostov-on-Don Elena Kovaleva picked up a kitten that was tormented by children, the cat was given the name Varvara.

After a while, the cat began to bald. The barbarian was shown to veterinarians, but they could not find the reason. Despite the fact that the cat lost her hair, she felt fine. Barbara was brought together with a Celtic cat, from whom she had 3 kittens. One kitten was born without hair, a girl named Chita. Chita is considered the first representative of the Don Sphinxes.

The phenologist Irina Nemykina became interested in the new breed and began its breeding. In 1996, the breed of the Don Sphinx was officially registered.

Description of the Don Sphinxes

The breed standard permits both Donetsk without hair and with a small hairline. The presence of wool depends on the season, hormonal status or temperature in the house.

There are 3 subspecies of the breed:

  1. Naked sphinx - a feature of the subspecies is the complete absence of hair (rubber to the touch rubber), or a short cover up to 0.1 cm (velvet skin).
  2. Velours - Don Sphynx Velor is divided into 3 types (wool disappears partially or completely by 5-7 months):
  • Light velor - the hair of cats does not reach a length of more than 0.2 cm
  • Velor point - characterized by a short pile on the face and legs, not exceeding 0.4 cm in length.
  • Velor down - cats are covered with velor cover throughout the body. On the legs, hips, chest and tail - a soft pile.
  1. Brush - divided into 3 types:
  • Brush velor - a hairline of not more than 0.5 cm. When growing up, often the skin in the neck, sides and back changes to thin folk.
  • Brush point - kittens are often covered with thick hair. But by the age of one and a half years, the cover becomes smaller. On the muzzle, paws and tail remains a thick, short hair. The remaining parts of the body are covered with light velor.
  • Thick brush - the animal is covered with a layer of wool under which the skin is not visible. Especially thick cover on the chest, legs, hips and tail.

Don sphynxes with the presence of wool are used in the development of the breed to strengthen the health of future kittens, reducing the risk of developing congenital heart diseases, inversion of the eyelids and other pathologies. However, such cats and cats cannot participate in exhibitions.

Standard

Types of Don Sphinxes do not differ in size and body structure.

  • Body: tight and muscular. The croup is wider than the shoulders, but the silhouette of the cat as a whole is elongated. Wrinkled wrinkles on the head, neck, armpits and groin. Males of this breed are larger than cats, the weight of males can reach 7 kg, females - 5 kg.
  • Leather: it feels smooth and feels very hot (sphinxes have a higher body temperature than fluffy cats). There is skin melanin, which allows tanders to sunbathe. In addition, the sphinxes sweat all over.
  • Limbs: medium length, but the fingers are elongated and look like human. The tail is long, straight and tapers along its entire length.
  • Head: the contours of the head have a pronounced wedge-shaped shape, cheekbones, a firm chin, and a straight nose are clearly outlined.
  • Ears: large and splayed forward.
  • Eyes: slanting, almond-shaped, without eyelashes, the iris is of any color.
  • Mustache: small and curly, may be completely absent.
  • Color: Donchak has no specific color, the color of the cat depends on the color of the skin. There are both spotty and monotonous colors.

Donchak - the animal is not picky and can even be said to be independent. But just like all cats, it requires attention, affection and care.

Skin Care & Bathing

Although cats are hairless, it is important to monitor their skin condition. Just because of the lack of hair, the Don Sphinxes sweat and secrete a fatty substance that protects the skin. Over time, if the cat does not bathe, the layer becomes noticeable and causes discomfort to both the cat and the owners. Therefore, bathe a cat, but not more often than 1-2 times a week. Otherwise, the cat's skin will dry out. In order not to hurt the animal, wash the cat with a soft washcloth or a soft sponge.

To bathe, fill the bathtub with water, you need to fill it so that the water level is not higher than the cat’s chest, otherwise the water gets into the nose. Make the water not cold, but not hot. Apply shampoo to the body and gently rub on the skin. After rinse the shampoo with water and wrap the pet in a towel, allowing to dry.

Useful video on how to wash the sphinx:

To prevent the occurrence of acne on the tail of a pet, you need to wipe it regularly. If this is not done, then the sebaceous glands will clog the pores. For wiping, a special lotion or alcohol-free degreasing agent is used. After the procedure, rinse off the rest of the substance with warm water and wipe with a towel. In case blackheads appear frequently and in large quantities, show the cat to the veterinarian.

Also, the appearance of blackheads on the tail of male cats indicates the puberty of the pet

Keep track of the time spent by the cat in the sun. Due to the lack of hair, the Don Sphinx burns if it is in the sun for a long time. Therefore, do not leave the cat unattended. If, nevertheless, the cat is burnt, do not smear it with lotions with sunblock. Over time, the tan will subside, the skin will peel off and regain its normal appearance.

Eyes and ears

Due to the lack of eyelashes in the Don Sphinx, the risk of eye contamination increases. It is acceptable if the discharge from the eyes is transparent. But, if the color is yellow, brown, green or white - this means the presence of infection in the body. In this case, consult your veterinarian.

Wipe the cat's eyes with a cotton swab dipped in a solution of chamomile or tea leaves. Do not use a towel or paper towel, as it is very likely that fibers or pieces of paper will get into your eyes.

It is recommended to clean the ears of the Don Sphinx once every 1-2 weeks, at least. Due to the large ears of the Don Sphinx, sulfur often accumulates in the auricles, which should be removed. To do this, use a cotton swab. Do not clean too deeply, but at the same time clean the discharge completely.

The pharmacy also sells a special ear cleaning fluid. Place liquid in a cat’s ear, leave it for a while, and then wipe it dry so that the cat doesn’t accidentally put it in its mouth.

Important! Do not use cotton buds to clean your ears.

Claws

When cutting nails, it is important not to hurt the cat's nerve endings. They are 2-3 millimeters from the beginning of the claw. For trimming, use a special nail clipper, sold in special stores. Lock the cat still and gently cut each claw. Perform the procedure regularly as new claws grow.

Nutrition

Due to the high energy exchange and hung body temperature, the metabolism increases. Therefore, pay special attention to feeding your pet. Unlike cats with fur, which are fed 2-3 times a day, the Don Sphinx is fed 3-4 times. It is recommended that you schedule and give meals on a schedule.

The diet of a cat should include vital substances: proteins, fats, carbohydrates. It is recommended that the Don Sphinx be given as natural food: meat, fish, milk, vegetables, and dry food. Diet and portion sizes are compiled individually for each pet.

Pet walk

Walking the Don Sphinx is not so simple, due to the lack of hair. In the cold season, it is better to keep a pet at home, as he can easily get sick. If it’s not very cold outside, then you need to walk your pet in special clothes. On hot days, do not walk too long, although sunlight has a positive effect on the body, the cat may well be burned.

How to choose a kitten

Choosing a pet is a responsible occupation. Therefore, approach him seriously. Do not buy Donchak if there is any doubt about his breeder. It is recommended to choose a seller who has a good reputation. Exclude markets from your search and do not chase for cheap options. Otherwise, instead of a healthy kitten, you will be sold a sick animal with pathologies.

A responsible breeder will sell you a kitten no earlier than the deadline for animals to reach 3 months of age. The kitten should be playful and easy to make contact. Eyes, ears, anus without discharge and roughened crusts.

Since the sphinxes are bald, carefully examine the skin of the kitten. A gray coating (it is especially noticeable on pink sphinxes) indicates poor conditions for keeping the kitten. If you notice even white scars, it is quite possible that the kitten has already had surgery and that he has congenital pathologies that the breeder wants to keep silent about.

Feel free to ask questions to the seller, because when buying a sick animal you will have a lot of responsibility and a lot of trouble with the content. Check the documents for the kitten - birth certificate, pedigree, veterinary passport with vaccinations. The price of the Don Sphinx fluctuates from 9 to 30 thousand rubles.

Breed breeding

Don sphinxes are now popular. Therefore, problems for their breeding should not be. Cats puberty occurs six months after birth. But the females are reduced only after the third estrus. Optimum age: 1-1.5 years.

For breeding and exhibitions cats of pet (pet) class are not allowed. Animals of this category are pets and do not participate in the development of the gene pool of the breed. Therefore, carefully study the pedigree of your cat or cat, as well as all the papers that the breeder gave you.

Before mating, the animal must be healthy and vaccinated. The first signs of pregnancy in a cat appear after 3 weeks, on average, pregnancy lasts 64 days. Usually cats give birth to 4-6 kittens.

Care for the Don Sphinx

The Don Sphinx is not adapted for existence in street conditions. Since this breed needs attention and compliance with care rules. The lack of wool made these pets weather-dependent. Cold or draft can immediately trigger a cat's cold. Therefore, they contain sphinxes in the house, not letting them out on the street in cool or, even less so, frosty weather.

If in the winter season the apartment is not warm enough, if there is a sphinx in the house, the housing must be additionally heated with electrical appliances. You can also pre-purchase a warm suit for the sphinx.

The skin of the Don Sphinx does not respond well to ultraviolet, so in the summer you can not keep the cat in the sun for a long time. Some lovers of the breed, before going out, smear their pet with sunscreen for people.

The Don Sphinx is a very peaceful animal. He will be happy to communicate with other pets, avoiding all kinds of conflicts. Therefore, it can certainly be started if the house already has other animals (rodents, cats, dogs, guinea pigs).

Oddly enough, the sphinx is much more comfortable with water procedures than their furry counterparts. The procedure is performed at least 1-2 times a month. In addition, once a week the cat's skin is wiped with a damp towel or alcohol-free wipes. During the water procedure, the Don sphinx is thoroughly washed with folds. If you do not do this, bacteria can collect in these places, which will subsequently cause inflammatory processes and an unpleasant odor.

They bathe the pet in a pre-warmed room in water from 38 degrees. After the manipulation, the cat is thoroughly wiped with a terry towel. The skin is smeared with cream for children, then the cat is wrapped in a dry sheet or blanket (depending on the time of year).

It is also important to periodically clean the ears of the Don Sphinx. And the claws should be trimmed as they grow if the animal does not use a claw point. The most interesting thing is that the sphinxes with pleasure carry all these procedures.

Sphinxes lack a natural eye protection from dust - eyelashes. Therefore, it is important to carefully care for them, rubbing their eyes twice a week with tea or decoctions of herbs (chamomile, calendula, oak bark, etc.).

Ears are cleaned once every 7 days, as they are also prone to rapid contamination.

The Don Sphinx requires constant “feeding” due to increased metabolism. A pet cannot keep warm for a long time and for this he needs a lot of energy. Therefore, the Don Sphynx does not eat like all cats - twice a day, but 3-4 times a day. The diet of the animal should consist mainly of proteins. Feed for them choose premium. Such a drug should be rich in valuable trace elements and vitamins. Cats of this breed gladly enjoy sweets, pastries, and fruits. To avoid problems with the digestive system, it is important to give the cat these delicacies rarely and in small doses.

Diseases of the Don Sphinx

The Don Sphynx is a relatively healthy and strong cat. With proper care, it is hardy and resistant to various diseases.

This breed does not require the presence of a person during the birth of a cat. Labor activity proceeds quickly and, as a rule, without complications.

Kittens are born strong, and their eyes open on the third day. Sometimes babies with already cut eyes are born into the world. In this case, immediate flushing of the eyes with a solution of potassium permanganate is required. This will save the animal from the development of infection, prevents souring and lacrimation.

The absence of hair on the body of the animal suggests additional warming of the sphinx during walks in the cold. It is important to ensure that the house where the cat is warm. Otherwise, colds of an animal are inevitable.

Large unprotected sphinx ears require regular cleaning, otherwise an infection may develop in them, ear mites appear.

It is also important to remember the periodic deworming of the animal. In particular, if the Don Sphinx walks on the street, it is guaranteed to have worms sooner or later. In order to prevent the cat, at least once every 3 months they are given medications for these intrauterine parasites. A veterinarian will help you choose drugs for your pet.

Also, do not forget about vaccinations, which will help to avoid various ailments.

About the breed

Compared to the sphinx from Canada, the Don is a completely hairless cat. On the eve of the arrival of cold winter, their body can become covered with a small fluff. The whole body is wrinkled, soft, slightly velvety, warm to the touch. Folds can collect in the abdomen, as well as in the groin and on the legs.

These cats are characterized by a strong physique, strong skeleton, and well-developed muscular system. On the tall legs there are thin long fingers. The head is triangular in shape, on which are located the same shape, large ears rounded at the tips and slightly slanting eyes. In this breed of cats, the male is always larger than the female.

Kittens are born covered with a barely visible soft fluff. As soon as the individual begins to mature, it will immediately fall out. A characteristic feature of tiny sphinx kittens is twisted eyebrows and mustaches.

In one feline family, individuals can be born in which the body is covered with a coarse short bristle, similar to a brush. And also with bald patches of skin on the head, neck, back. Such an animal will not be able to participate in exhibitions, achieving great titles. However, it can become an excellent candidate for breed breeding.

When breeding, such individuals reduce the possibility of unhealthy kittens suffering from heart disease, malocclusion and many other diseases and pathologies.

As for the coloring, it is found and completely recognized.

Breed description

It appeared recently - about 40 years ago, but has already managed to take hold of the hearts of many people in different parts of the world. Its representatives are characterized by certain standards:

  • lack of hair, eyelashes, eyebrows and mustaches, there are only short vibrissas that help to navigate in space,
  • big slanting eyes
  • wedge-shaped head with a pronounced chin,
  • long paws and fingers
  • impressive ears that are located at a small distance from each other,
  • thin and flexible tail,
  • sophisticated neck
  • the skin folds in the groin, on the stomach,
  • color is most often transitional, monophonic individuals are rare.

Hairless cats have very strong immunity. The only weak spot is the eyes. The mucous membrane becomes sensitive due to the absence of cilia, and therefore requires special attention.

What is the character of the sphinx?

Extraordinary creatures have a special set of qualities that make them special. You will never meet the same pets, but they have a lot in common. You’ll definitely not have to miss nearby. The naked are characteristic of:

  • Curiosity - they will look into every click, put their paws in all the boxes, jars, bags available to them, and then climb into the curtains to see what's up there interesting.
  • Activity - when your four-legged friend is not asleep, he is constantly in motion. Speed races, high jumps, attacking slippers or balls of wool, fun with toys - favorite pastimes. If the owner connects to this process, the pet shines with happiness.
  • Fearlessness - are not afraid to look at your reflection in the mirror, jump from your shoulder to the floor or sniff and taste unfamiliar objects. Even if at first the animal is frightened of something, after 5 minutes it will still resume an attempt to satisfy its interest in the selected object.
  • Self esteem - when the baby settles in a new space and grows up a little, he will make his own choice. It will sit in your hands only at will.
  • Love - hairless pets adore rubbing their muzzle on your chin or cheeks, purring under their side or licking their family members, demonstrating their affection for them.
  • Sociability - always needs a company. He prefers to be in constant contact with a person - he sits on his shoulder when you watch TV or helps to “leaf through” a book while reading. Likes to take part in your affairs.

The pet will not let every stranger in. If it inspires confidence, the animal will interact with it. The pet will avoid suspicious or evil personalities by intuitively sensing danger to itself.

Care and maintenance

Before a new resident appears in your home, prepare space for him. Take away valuable things that the baby can reach so that he does not spoil them. Hide all household chemicals in a separate cupboard, otherwise your pet will definitely taste them.

When the kitten crosses the threshold of your apartment, be vigilant. Always close the door to the bathroom, especially when collecting a bath. The toilet lid must also be closed. Check how mosquito nets are firmly fixed to the windows. You are responsible for the safety of your four-legged friend.

How to care for your skin?

In the Don Sphinxes, it is very sensitive, requires special attention. Once every 1-2 weeks, bathe a gentle creation in warm water with baby shampoo, then wipe it dry. It is impossible to blow dry, so as not to burn the body. Wipe periodically with a damp cloth tail, back and tummy, so that there is no brown coating. In summer, do not let sunbathing for a long time - half an hour is enough.

Hygiene procedures

To maintain good health, your pet needs your care. Trim the claws 1-2 mm per month. If they are long, the animal is not comfortable moving around. Every day, wipe your eyes with a cotton swab soaked in herbal decoction or tea without additives. Once a week, clean the ears with hydrogen peroxide, removing brown deposits in them.

How to feed adults and kittens?

From the age of 2 months, solid food is introduced into the diet of babies. Boil cottage cheese, oatmeal, chicken fillet and egg yolk. Up to 4 months can be milk. Then the menu for crumbs will not differ from the list of necessary products for big cats. The difference will only be in the amount of servings and the frequency of food intake.

Until six months, you need to give food 8 times a day, then - 6-7 times. From 10 months, they gradually switch to another mode - 4 meals a day. Sphinx needs to eat:

  • raw or boiled meat - beef, tenderloin of turkey or chicken (you can still neck from it), liver,
  • cooked and boneless marine fish,
  • dairy products,
  • buckwheat and rice as a source of useful trace elements,
  • stewed zucchini, cabbage, carrots, pumpkin and fresh cucumbers or tomatoes.

You can’t put leftovers from your table on the plate. Human food is too heavy for him; it is saturated with salt and spices.

Characteristics of the Don Sphinxes

These cats are peaceful. They are absolutely not aggressive. Extraordinarily cute, soft, good-natured, too attached to its owner. In the family, their behavior is not characteristic as a subordinate pet, but as an equal in the rights of a member of the family community. See the features of the Don Sphynx breed.

Don sphinxes have a peaceful nature. They are clumsy, but cheerful. Most of all, they prefer a serene sleep. Having chosen a warm place, curl up and doze off. During wakefulness, they will be happy to run around the house, in order to find themselves some kind of amusement.

Occasionally annoying. They all the time need affection and communication, while still feeling the mood of their owner. Easy to learn - quickly get used to the toilet, daily routine.

You can even train them - they can perform some easy tricks.
